BREAKING: elections will not hold in 240 polling units — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Monday that elections will not be held in about 240 polling units in 28 States of the federation between February 25 and March 11.

The Commission also said that it will not accept a situation in which two or more party agents show up at the polling places and cause confusion. It said that any agent caught doing this will be arrested and charged with a crime. In Edo, Kwara, Rivers, and Zamfara States, there is only one polling unit where elections won’t happen. In Imo State, there are 38 polling units where elections won’t happen.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the head of INEC, told leaders of the 18 registered political parties at a regular meeting before the elections. He said that none of the affected polling units had any registered voters. He said that, with the exception of the 240 polling units, elections will be held in about 176,606 polling units across the country. Yakubu stated nobody chose to vote in these polling units.
