Building Collapse: Lagos Physical Planning Commissioner, Salako Resigns

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, has resigned from his position.

According to multiple reports, his resignation may not be unconnected to the way his ministry had handled the case of the seven-story building which recently collapsed at Oba Idowu Oniru Street, Lekki.

The distressed building before its collapse was said to have been unlocked every time government officials sealed it as the developer allegedly kept boasting that he knew people in authority who indulged him.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho announced the resignation of Salako on Monday.

It read, “The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has accepted the resignation of the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako.

“This is a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry and its agencies.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu thanks the Commissioner for his services to the State and wishes him success in his future endeavours.

“The Governor warns all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are.”
